Where do I publish?: ERA

Not sure where to publish? Consult this guide for some hints and tips to get you started

Why do I need to know about ERA?

Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) is an assessment system that evaluates the quality of the research conducted at Australian universities by discipline.

Points to remember:

  • The ERA process is used to determine funding allocations to individual universities through a range of grant programs.
  • This means you should publish in a journal that is listed in the current ERA Journal list.
  • Each journal in the ERA list is assigned to one or more disciplines defined by Field of Research (FoR) codes.
  • For strategic purposes and university funding it is important that you know which FoR code is relevant to the School/Faculty that you are in.
  • Data for ERA is derived from the records entered into University’s Research Information System (RIS). (see Discoverability)

ERA 2015 Journal List

The ERA 2015 Journal List defines the journals that are eligible for institutions’ ERA 2015 submissions – that is, scholarly, peer reviewed journals that publish original research and were active during the ERA 2015 reference period for research outputs (1 January 2008 – 31 December 2013).
