StartSmart introduces you to the fundamental study skills you need to start your journey at UOW.

Learn how to find great information for your assignments, understand how you can avoid plagiarism and develop better study habits to keep you on track.

StartSmart, together with the complementary CareerSmart program, is compulsory for all commencing students and best completed during the first three weeks of session.


Students can access the printing facilities in Telford Library using their Octopus cards. Details of the use of printing services are stated at the workstations in the Library.

This guide introduces the range of available resources to support your study and help you make the most of your UOW experience.

Find UOW Library resources

Use SEARCH to find print resources, eBooks and online journal articles. To access electronic resources from the search results list, click on ‘Access electronically’ or download Full Text PDF.

Electronic resources can also be accessed via databases and eJournals. If you are not able to find the item you need, you can request and borrow items from other libraries

Borrowing information

Use your UOW student ID card to borrow items from Telford Library.

Check your library record for fines, recalled items and overdue loans. You can also renew items and view the progress for print items you have requested from other libraries.

All items at the Telford Library can be borrowed for 28 days. You can borrow up to 10 items, and place a hold on 2 items that have been borrowed by other students. You will receive an email notification if any of the items you have borrowed are overdue.

Research advice is available at your campus library and online via Ask Us. If you need help, ask a staff member at the library service desk or search for the answer to your enquiry online,

Study spaces

Telford Library offers a variety of study spaces such as the courtyard, third floor open area as well as computer-equipped workstations and study cubicles.

Overdue fines

An overdue notice will be sent via email to borrowers as soon as the loan period expires. However, the responsibility of returning library materials on time rests with the borrowers.

Borrowers can settle overdue fines by cash at Telford Library service counter during office hours.
