UOW MakerSpace: What's in the MakerSpace

What's in the MakerSpace?

The MakerSpace and MediaSpace aim to foster creativity, innovation and collaboration by providing the UOW community access to the latest prototyping tools and technology.

As a UOW student or staff member you will have access to soldering irons, virtual reality headsets, 3D printers, digital recording programs and more.

Equipment

The following equipment will require you to undergo safety induction training:

Me3D 3D Printers
Print 3D models, such as mini pot plants and bag hooks, either from websites like Thingiverse or your own designs from programs like Fusion 360.


Brother 800E Embroidery Machine
Embroid intricate designs with the push of a button.


Brother Scan n Cut CM900
Cut out logos or other patterns on a sticky vinyl sheet which can be stuck onto windows, laptops and other surfaces.


Hakko FX-888D, Soldering Stations
Perform basic electrical repairs or practice on some of the numerous test boards.


Brother NV1100 Sewing Machine
Create something to wear or a bag to carry your shopping using a variety of stitch patterns.


Dremel 4200-7/40 Rotary Tool
Smooth off any wooden or foam surface with the Dremel's variety of attachments, or cut to size any thin piece of material.


Carvey 3D Carving Machine
Create 2D objects, such as a coaster for your hot drinks, out of the variety of materials in the MakerSpace.


Emblazer2 Laser Cutter
Cut your designs on wood, leather and various other materials.

Immersive Virtual Reality experience.

Immersive Virtual Reality experience.

Alienware Auroras
High-end PC's with a variety of CAD (computer aided drawing) software and video editing tools.

Wacom Intuous Pro PTH660
A4 drawing tablet that can be connected to any of the PC's in the MakerSpace.

Compose, record and edit audio material.

 

Ableton Live 9

Music and sound mixing software that can be used with Roland Session Mixer and Novation Launchpad and Launchkey devices.

 

Final Cut Pro X

Edit 360° video's and motion graphics, with built-in 4K support.

 

Blender

Free, open-source 3D modelling software that can be used to create things like animated films or 3D printed models.

 

Fusion360

CAD software that can be used to create 2 and 3D models, which can then be printed on the MakerSpace 3D printers.

 

Hindenburg Pro

Edit multiple audio tracks simultaneously and even record on Skype.

 

Microsoft Visual Studio

Create things like websites and web apps, all the way up to computer programs, for Microsoft environments with this programming tool.

 

Xcode

Create things like iOS apps, all the way up to computer programs, for Apple devices with this programming tool.

Arduino's Beginner Kits

Covers the basics of electronics with a selection of projects to get started with.

 

Arduino: Esplora, Mega, Nano

A more advanced look at electronics with each model having different options and uses.

 

Breadboards

Prototype and test electronics and circuit designs.

 

Tinkerkit Braccio Arduino Robotic Arm

Control this robotic arm with an Arduino and use it to pick up objects around it.

 

Edison Robots

Mini programmable robot that includes things like the proximity sensor for detecting objects in front of it.

 

Digital Power Supplies Ouput

Various AC/DC power levels and monitor with the in-built digital display.

 

Digital Oscilloscope

Capture, process and display the waveform of electronic signals.

 

Digital Multimeters

Measure current voltage and resistance the easy to read digital display.

Learn programming through fun, practical projects with this microcomputer.
