Returning items

Users can return items at the circulation desk during counter services hours. The book drop service is available in both libraries. Please handle library books with care when using the book drop.

Renewing items

Students

Students can renew borrowed items online by logging into My Library Account, which contains information such as items checked out, items on hold, and due dates. After two manual-renewals, students will need to return the item.

Staff

All items will be automatically renewed twice for staff. After two auto-renewals, staff will need to manually renew the item if they wish to extend the loan period.

When renewing items, it will base the new due date on the current date.

Restrictions on renewals

Most items can be renewed online except if:

  • an item is recalled by another user or by the Library
  • an item is overdue
  • an item has reached the maximum renewal limit
  • an item is a short-loan item
  • an item has been declared lost and billed for replacement
  • a borrower's account has outstanding charges that exceed the prescribed limit of $30.

Recalled items

All loan items are subject to recall if requested by another user or recalled by the Library. The user will receive a recall notice via email if their loaned item is recalled. Their loan period will be shortened from the date of recall. A new due date will supersede all previous loan periods or due dates.

To avoid incurring overdue fines or suspension of borrowing privilege, check your library record regularly and return the recalled item from the date of recall or by the original due date, whichever comes earlier.

Failure to return any recalled items by the recall date will incur a fine.

Fines

Return the following items by the due time or date during opening hours to avoid being fined:

  • Short loan items at UOWCHK Library.
  • Items requested by another user (hold) or otherwise recalled by the Library.

Check your library record to see any fines you may owe.

Fine charges
  • Short-loan item: $2 per hour overdue (maximum $30 fine)
  • Recalled item: $3 per day overdue
  • Lost or damaged item: Replacement cost + $10 administration processing fee
Paying fines

Fines can be paid in person at the service counter (by Octopus only).
