What is EndNote?

EndNote software manage references, images, notes and other files in an EndNote library. It also links references to a Word document and automatically creates a bibliography.

EndNote has many output styles including specific journal styles.  The default style for University of Wollongong is Harvard.  In EndNote choose "author-date" style as this is closest to the UOW Harvard style.

 

EndNote trouble-shooting drop in sessions

NEW!

The Library will be hosting EndNote trouble-shooting drop in sessions for all HDR students. The drop in sessions are for EndNote users who have previously attended one of our related research classes and would like extra assistance. No bookings are necessary, however, depending on how busy the session is on the day, there may be a waiting period as help is given on a first-come-first-served basis. 

If you need support with EndNote please come into the Library on any of the following dates for a 15 minute consultation with an EndNote expert:

  • Wednesday 9th April, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 1 in the Library
  • Tuesday 22nd April, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 1 in the Library
  • Wednesday 7th May, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 1 in the Library
  • Tuesday 20th May, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 2 in the Library
  • Wednesday 4th June, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 1 in the Library
  • Tuesday 17th June, 12:30-1:30pm in Lab 1 in the Library

ENDNOTE X7 IS HERE!

Endnote X7 is now available for installation on your office computer and to download and install on your home computer. 

What is Endnote?
Endnote software manages references, images, notes, and other files in an Endnote library.  It also links references to a Word document and automatically creates a bibliography.  The workbooks in the Library Endnote Guide - http://uow.libguides.com/endnote - provide instruction on the use of Endnote.

Endnote has many output styles including specific journal styles.  The default style for UOW is Harvard.  In Endnote, choose "author-date" style as this is closest to the UOW Harvard style.

University Computers
University staff using Windows 7 are able to upgrade to Endnote X7 on their office computer. The software on these computers can be upgraded by selecting Endnote X7 from Run Advertised Programs in the Control Panel.  Go to Start - Control Panel - Programs - Run Advertised Programs and then click on Endnote X7 and then click the Run button. Phone ITS on extn. 3000 for assistance.

Staff using Macs should contact ITS support for upgrading Endnote on their office computer by phoning extn. 3000.

Public computers in the Library and in labs across the University have been upgraded to the latest version.

Home Computers
Endnote can be used at home while you are a student or staff member of the University of Wollongong.  Check the compatibility of Endnote X7 with your operating system and version of Microsoft Word before installing. Click on the Software tab above to download the software and installation instructions.  Please read the installation instructions before installing the software.  

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MAC USERS: 

Upgrading to the recently released OSX Mavericks will cause issues with EndNote X4.  This version of OSX is compatible only with EndNote X7.

Both EndNote X7 and Endnote X4 are available to download for Windows or Macintosh for home . Instructions for installing the software are available via the Software tab. 

The Library recommends that you check the version of Microsoft Office installed on your personal computer before installing Endnote X7.  The University currently supports Microsoft Office 2010 on ITS managed desktop computers and is currently upgrading to Endnote X7.

Which version of  EndNote should I download and install? 
We recommend that you install Endnote X7 unless you have compatibility issues.

The EndNote workshop is an introductory session. This session will assist you to create and enter references into an EndNote library; import and search for stored references; edit your chosen style; add reference types to the template and link EndNote with your Word document.
