ORCiD stands for Open Researcher and Contributor iD. You can register for free directly on the ORCID site or via your UOW Scholars profile. Your unique iD makes you distinctive from every other researcher and is a reliable, consistent way to link all of your research outputs and activities in the one record. You can add publications, grants, peer review activities, patents and more.
ORCID links your research contributions to your name so that you can distinguish yourself from others and get the recognition you deserve. If you share the same name as someone else or use different versions of your name when publishing, your ORCID iD helps to avoid confusion about whose research output it is. Publishers also ask for ORCID iD so they can connect your work with you and ensure correct attribution.
Funders such as ARC and NHMRC are requesting ORCID iDs to streamline the grant submission process. ARC integrates ORCID IDs into RMS to help auto-populate application forms and save you time.
ORCID is recognised globally and helps optimise your research visibility by showcasing your research output worldwide.
UOW is transitioning to a new research publication management system (Symplectic Elements) to replace the legacy Research Information System (RIS Pubs).
So, where does ORCID fit in? Symplectic Elements connects with ORCID so that your publications can flow through to the new system, saving you time.
If you haven’t already done so, sign up for an ORCID so that you can be ready to go when Symplectic Elements arrives.
Register directly on the ORCID site or if you have a UOW Scholars profile, use the Identity tab to register for an ORCID iD and link your profile to your iD.
Already have an ORCID iD? Make sure to link it with your Scholars profile.
Through your UOW Scholars profile you can register for an ORDIC iD (if you don't already have one) as well as link your Scholars profile with your ORCID record.
Now that you have completed these steps:
Researchers can auto-populate ARC RMS application forms with their research outputs, using ORCID.
To auto-populate RMS:
Please Note: RMS will only auto-populate if your ORCID's visibility setting is set to 'Everybody' and 'Trusted Parties'.
See the ARC guide for further information.
ORCID Support has a wealth of info to help get you started.
