Conferences

In fields such as engineering, computer science, and physics, peer-reviewed conference papers are a widely accepted form of research output. It is important to note that the significance of conference papers varies across different disciplines, speak with your colleagues and supervisors about their relevance in your discipline.

You may receive unsolicited emails to attend or present at a conference. It is important that you are able to judge the legitimacy and academic credentials of all conferences you are considering attending or presenting at. Think.Check.Attend. is an international initiative that aims to guide and assist researchers and scholars when choosing trusted conferences to attend and to present their research at.

Turn your conference paper into a journal article

A conference paper can form the foundation on which a journal article can be created. You can check with a journal publisher if they will publish a conference paper by visiting the submission guidelines or contacting the journal directly. You can publish, present, or both for example presenting at conferences that include conference proceedings or papers.

Also ensure that copyright has not been assigned to the conference organisers if it has, it may be necessary to obtain written permission from the copyright holder to re-publish in a journal title.
