Finding Information

How to find information for your assessments, and how to get the most out of your sources once you've found them.

Conference proceedings

Research is often first communicated via conferences and their proceedings.

Conference proceedings:

  • provide access to research that may not be available in other formats.
  • can be overlooked and sometimes difficult to locate; not being a book or journal article.

Finding conference proceedings

Conference papers are often published in journals to be found in online databases.

Some databases will let you limit your search to just conference proceedings, but you will generally have to add the terms conference* and proceeding* to your search words.

Plan your search and use search engine tricks to get the best results.

For example: coal mining and (conference* or proceeding*).

This search string looks for any conferences and their proceedings relating to the coal mining industry.

Keep in mind - information published via journal articles may already be several years old.
